Characters: Yuma Tsukumo, Aspiring Emperor Hope, Yuya Sakaki
Synopsis: Yuma talks to Hope about Hope's past as an Astral. Afterwards, Yuya discusses with Yuma the suspicions he has over Kai and Koyo and their possible connection to the Barians.
Sitting by a tree, his legs pulled to his chest, Yuma silently watched the waves on the horizon, beyond the cliff edge, as they danced under the sunset that was falling over the island. There was a lot going through his head right now, all the information on the Barians and the Astrals that they had learned over time, which had lead to them finally discovering Hope's true origin.
"So, ... an Astral, huh."
Hope's ghostly apparition appeared stood beside Yuma after he spoke.
"The name that Failnaught spoke. 'Durendal'. That also carries the same familiarity to me as 'Astral' does. So, I believe we can assume the story has truth in it."
"So that means you were originally helping the Astrals... but..." Yuma quickly stood to his feet, facing towards Hope. "... you must of realized that what they were making you do was wrong! That stopping the Barian's from fixing their world wasn't right! But when you stood up to them, they made Galaxy-Eyes arrest you and then they erased your memory!"
Hope was silent for a moment, before replying. "We do not know the full story, but it is correct to assume that I did fall afoul of the Astrals in some way or another."
"Those other Barians said that the Astrals would imprison and wipe the memories and history of anyone who got in their way! Anyone who'd challenge them or stop them from becoming greater, even if they were one of their own!"
Yuma looked up at Hope, with determined eyes.
"I know that you're definitely not a bad guy and I believe in you 100%!! I know that together, somehow, we might be able to find a way to help the Barian's save their world!"
Turning away slightly, clenching his fists by his side, Yuma looked back out towards the ocean.
"The Astrals could of helped them find a way, but they seem to just want to do anything to make sure all the Barian's plans fail. That everyone who ever helps them are wiped out!!
But all the Barians want is to save their home! If you were losing your home, you'd do anything to save it! Absolutely anything! I--"
"Yuma."
Yuma fell silent as Hope spoke.
"I understand your strong desire to help the Barians save their home, but do not mix up that desire, with your own.
The Barian's world... is not Heartland. Do not let the guilt you feel for the loss of your own home, drive the desire to save theirs."
Yuma looked uncomfortably to the floor. Hope could see right through him and... he was right. He was putting his own personal feelings over Heartland into this.
"I know." He replied. "But still... I want to help them! I know I need to try and stop them from using the Legendary Numbers, but there must be another way to help and I don't care what the Astrals have to say about it!"
Looking down at Yuma, Hope gave him a small nod.
"Very well. Then I will believe in the path you have chosen to take."
Yuma gave his partner a nod back, before Hope faded away.
Looking back out towards the ocean and the sunset, Yuma knew things weren't going to be easy, but he wanted to try his best to solve things in a way that was best for everyone.
"Yuma?"
Interrupting his thoughts was Yuya's familiar voice. He looked behind him to see his friend approaching.
"Is everything okay?"
"Yeah." Yuma replied, as he rubbed the back of his neck. "I just came out here to think and talk to Hope a bit. Everything's fine."
"I see." There was an awkward pause, before Yuya spoke up again. "Actually, I came here to speak to you about something."
"You did?" Yuya gave him a nod in response. With that Yuma sat down back by the tree, prompting Yuya to sit next to him.
"Back when we were recovering in the infirmary, Shirou told me something that I'd been meaning to tell you, but I wanted to give you time after everything before bringing it up."
"Something Shirou told you?"
"Yeah. He told me about what he had sensed from the Barians that day and how Alex had a similar aura to Labrys. We know now that's because of the power she absorbed from Scythe, but... Shirou also told me that he'd also sensed this type of aura at the Academy, specifically during my parties."
Yuma's eyes widened. "He sensed something similar to the Barians here?!"
With a nod, Yuya continued. "I believe now, that the ones he was sensing that from... were possibly Kai and Koyo.
Think about it, both have acted weird more than once on these missions for the Legendary Numbers, either becoming ill, or mentioning strange feelings. Maybe it's just a coincidence but..."
Yuma frowned with concern as Yuya voiced his suspicions, eventually looking to the floor.
"So it's possible they have some kind of connection with the Barians..."
"Yeah, but if they do, I don't think they're aware of it themselves, so it's not something we can ask them about."
Leaning his head back against the tree, Yuma closed his eyes and took a deep breath in, eventually letting it out slowly.
"I guess all we can do is see how they react when we go for the next Legendary Number." he said. "But Koyo and Kai are our friends, so even if they do have some kind of relation to the Barians, that won't ever change!"
Yuya gave Yuma a smile at his reply. "Of course!"
The two friends remained sat together by the tree for a while afterwards, just enjoying the quiet and serene scenery of the sunset, allowing themselves the time to relax, before gradually returning back to the Osiris Red Dorms.
