- Mother's Day -

Characters: Juudai Yuuki, Katou Yuuki, Ami Yuuki
Synopsis: Juudai attempts a second reunion with his parents on Mother's Day.

As he walked down a familiar street, Juudai clutched a single red rose nervously in his right hand. Of all the days he had decided to go and finally see his parents again, it ended up being on this day.
Mother's Day.
He didn't even realise it until he had been about to leave and saw Tomoko gathering some flowers in the Sakana apartments courtyard, telling him they were for her mother. After quickly managing to scrape up some money, he had stopped off at a flower shop on the way to the train station. He only had enough for one single red rose, but hopefully it was enough.

Now he was here, walking down the street that he had lived on when he was a child.

As he walked, he passed a father and a small child, who was no more than eight-years-old, who were kicking a ball to each other. Juudai watched them as he passed, then looked away before they saw he was looking at them.
He... never had moments like that with his father. He was always too busy to spend time doing things like that with him. Sometimes he would promise that he would but... it never happened.
Juudai let out a sigh before looking up to see his parents house come into view. Taking a deep breath, he began to walk towards it and up to the door.

They might not even be home... he though to himself as he stared at the door. It took him a few moments before he gained enough courage to actually knock on the door.
Then he waited. The more he waited, the more nervous he became. After a short while, he came to the conclusion that they weren't home and so he turned to walk away.
It was then he heard the lock on the door turn and the door open behind him.
He stayed absolutely still.

"...Juudai...?"

It was his mother's voice.
Slowly, Juudai turned around to face her, before backing off a little.

"I... I... probably shouldn't of come... sorry..."

"No, Juudai please...!" His mother stepped out a little from the doorway, giving him a small reassuring, yet apprehensive smile, she was scared she was going to walk away from her again. "It's okay... please... you can stay"

Juudai stayed still and quiet, but he gave a little nod at her. She nodded back, then her eyes wandered to her son's right hand and what he was holding in it. Juudai glanced down too, then realising he had forgotten he had even been holding the rose in that hand, he held it up slowly.

"Er... for you... for mother's day".

His mother smiled as she took the rose from her son's hands.

"Juudai, you didn't have to..." She then threw her arms around him, pulling him into a hug. "Having you visit is the best present you could of given"

Juudai was taken by surprise by the sudden hug, but he smiled and hugged her back.

"Honey, who was that at the ... door..."

As Juudai pulled away from his mother, he looked up to see his father stood at the door, looking surprised to see his son.

"Dad..."

The two looked at each other for a while, not really knowing what to say. Sensing the awkward moment, Juudai's mother put a hand on her sons shoulder and smiled at him as he looked up at her.

"How about we go inside"

-----------------------------------

A short while later, Juudai found himself sat in his parents living room. His parents were talking in the kitchen as his mother prepared some tea that she had insisted on. Juudai couldn't really make out what they were saying, but at least neither of them sounded angry or upset, this comforted him a little.
As he waited, he spotted what looked like to be a book on the small table in front of him. Picking it up he saw that it wasn't actually a book, but a photo album. He'd never seen it before.
Opening it up he was met with a bunch of old photos, mostly of a baby, smiling or looking very confused at the camera. As he flipped the pages, he then got to a photo of his parents, looking a lot younger, about mid-twenties at the most, holding the baby from the previous photos.
That baby was him.
It stunned Juudai a bit. The house had so very few family photos, even when he was growing up, but here was an album of photos of him, from the age of being a newborn baby to about the age of a year old.
His parents looked so happy and proud in these pictures.

"...we've been looking at that a lot lately"

Juudai looked up to see his mother entering the room, carrying a tray with teacups on it. She walked up and sat down beside him on the sofa, placing the tray down on the table as she did. His father soon followed quietly, choosing to just stand near-by.

"We realised these were the most pictures we had of you..."

Juudai's mother game out a small sigh and looked at Juudai, before placing a hand affectionately on the side of his face.

"Juudai, we're so sorry. It took us receiving that terrible news about you all those months ago to make us realise how much we truly missed of your life. We did spend a lot of time with you when you were a baby, but when we finally managed to get the jobs we were so desperately after...
... the more involved we became in our jobs, the less we became involved with you... we've missed doing so many things with you and now you're all grown up"

"Mom... there's... a lot of stuff I really want to tell you, the both of you. I want to let you both know exactly what's happened to me and... how things have happened, how different I've become... it's something I feel I should let you guys know about. It's... a long story though"

"We have the time to listen"

Juudai nodded and began to tell his story. Things that happened at the Academy and the things he could do. He told them about Haou, about his fusion with Yubel, his experience as a Dark Signer and how he died and came back to life, all the times the world had come close to ending... all the things he'd seen and experienced... but also about all the friends he had made that were so important to him and the girlfriend who he loved so very much.
He wasn't sure if they had understood some of what he was saying... he realised how crazy it all sounded, but they seemed to understand how hard it was for him to re-tell everything that had happened to him, some of it had been hard to bring up memories of.

Afterwards, there was a silence in the room, as neither of the three could think of what to say, but eventually, Juudai's mother just pulled her son into a tight hug, she felt like she didn't ever want to let him go.

"I can barely begin to understand what you've been through... but no matter what's happened, you're our son and we love you so much, nothing will ever change that"

Upon hearing this, Juudai couldn't help but feel like he wanted to cry, out of happiness and relief... it felt like such a comfort to tell all this to them... and like a huge weight was lifting off his shoulders. Eventually he just buried his face into his mother's shoulder and sobbed quietly... occasionally laughing a little through the sobs and commenting this was probably silly of him to be doing, his mother reassured him it wasn't.

Eventually, Juudai felt someone put a hand on his shoulder, looking up he was met with the smiling face of his father.

"If it had been anyone else... and if all those weird things hadn't of happened recently in the city, all this would be something I wouldn't believe for a second. But... I can tell that despite how crazy this all sounds... you're telling the truth to us, I can see it in your eyes... that you've seen things beyond what we can probably even comprehend.
But your mother is right, none of this makes you any less our son and... we're both really proud of you.
I'm sorry about how I reacted before."

"D-dad..." Juudai just smiled at him, tears in his eyes as he slowly shook his head, telling his father with silent words that it didn't matter about what had happened before. In response, his father just chuckled lightly and playfully patted Juudai's head before sitting down on the other side of him.

"So... this girlfriend of yours... how long have you been together with her now...?"

"Err... about... a year and a half now, I think"

"It's going well then?" his mother asked, Juudai happily nodded in response.
"Do... you have a picture of her at all?"

"Oh, yeah!" Juudai quickly dug into his pocket and pulled out his PDA, after going through it, he brought up a group picture taken from the holiday in Okinawa a year ago. "These are some of my friends, Asuka is the one stood next to me... here" He pointed her out to his parents as they looked at the picture.

"She's very pretty" his mother commented. "I'd like to meet her one day"

"I'm sure she'd like to meet you both too"

"We should have you both over for dinner one night! I think that would be nice"

Juudai laughed lightly. Despite how far apart he'd drifted from them in the past years, he felt like right now, was the closest he'd ever been to his parents and deep down he hoped he would never drift from them again.
Certainly, his parents were hoping for the same thing and after Juudai left that day, they promised themselves that they would never again lose contact with him again. They may of missed a lot of his childhood and he'd grown into an adult while they weren't looking, but they wanted to make sure from now on, to at least spend time with him and enjoy what the rest of the future may bring.
