- Tainting of the Pure Heart -

Characters: Ruka Terasaki, Kuribon, Regulus, Ancient Fairy Dragon, Galaxy Queen
Synopsis: Ruka pushes herself to the limit to try and research a way to bring back her brother and her friends after they vanish. In the process, she becomes influenced by Number 83: Galaxy Queen.

For days, Ruka had been frantically going through all the notes she had taken over the last year about the Crimson Dragon and their predicament of being thrown into a different past timeline with no warning. She had combed every piece of information, every legend, every theory on time-travel, anything that might help, but there seemed to be nothing that would.
She had also been searching around online for any news stories or anything out of the ordinary on the day her brother and friends went missing. There had been numerous reports of a sudden flash of light, just before 7am that morning and some reported a strange "red" dragon-looking object in the sky, but none of the reports were conclusive and all the photos that had been taken were blurry or too far away.

"Why? Why can't I find anything that will help?!" Ruka frantically cried as she alternated between looking at a report online and a book by the side of the keyboard. "There has to be something! Anything!!"

As she worked, Kuribon hopped onto the desk and looked up at Ruka, looking concerned for her. The fluffball then gently rubbed itself affectionately against Ruka's hand making the girl look down at it with her tired eyes.

"Kuribon... what are you doing? I'm busy here..."

"She's worried about you. We all are."

Ruka looked around at the source of the voice replying to her to see Regulus stood behind her. Ruka looked at him for a short while, before turning back to the computer screen.

"There's nothing to worry about. I just have to find out how to get the others back and everything will be fine."

Regulus shook his head slowly. "And how far will you go to reach that goal? You are already pushing yourself to your limits."

Ruka just ignored Regulus as she continued searching through her books and the internet. Though deep down she knew what Regulus just said was true. She had barely slept for days and it was starting to show, but she felt that if she stopped searching, that she would be giving up, or that the chance to bring her brother and friends back would lessen the more time passed.

Suddenly, the area around Ruka and the spirits dissolved slowly into a bright void as a familiar wise female voice rang out through the room.

"Ruka...~"

Ancient Fairy Dragon gradually appeared before them, looking down at Ruka with a worried expression.

"Ruka. You must believe in the Crimson Dragon. You must believe that it's reasons for what it has done are not meant to be malicious."

Ruka frowned at the dragon. "Can you really be sure of that though? For the past few years, I've asked you about the Crimson Dragon and what it's intentions were for sending us here, but your answer was always the same! That you didn't know the reason, but that you believed that whatever it was, it would be for a good reason.
But you can't say for sure if that's the truth or not! You've not had any contact with the Crimson Dragon, the same as me. At this point you're following it blindly."

Ancient Fairy Dragon remained silent for a moment before replying.

"Ruka. You have an incredibly pure and kind heart, but if you continue this path you are on now, that heart will become tainted and it will lead you into a very dark place that you may not come back from.
I may not be able to stop you, if you choose that path."

In a brief moment, Ruka seemed to look a little surprised at that revelation, but soon her expression dropped into a frown as she turned away from Ancient Fairy.
"If it means getting Rua back... then maybe that's what I'll have to do... he means everything to me and I'll do what it takes to be reunited with him again..."

Ancient Fairy looked at Ruka, shocked into silence by the young girl's response. That was not the answer she wished to hear and certainly not one she ever expected... but Ruka had made her choice.

All of a sudden, a strange laughing sound could be heard around them. It seemed feminine in origin, but it wasn't a familiar voice to Ruka, or to her spirits.
Very quickly, a strange wave of purple coloured energy seemed to hit all of them, engulfing Ruka and threatening to sweep her spirits away.

"W-what is this!?" Regulus demanded as he, Ancient Fairy and Kuribon tried their best to fight against the rushing purple haze. They could not even see Ruka anymore through it.
The strange female voice responded.

"Who? Me? I'm answering to the pleas of this poor lost child. I wish to help her gain her desire to see her family and friends again.
For me to achieve this, you must all be removed."

The current of the dark energy began to pick up it's strength, making the spirits struggle more against it, in an effort to not be swept away, but the current soon became too strong for Kuribon and Regulus, who lost their footing and disappeared into the dark haze.
Ancient Fairy Dragon winced as she watched her fellow spirits disappear, she then tried harder to fight back against the wave, attempting to get at whatever was causing this and trying to take Ruka away.

"W-who are you...?!"

"Someone who is going to help this poor child get what she wants. Revenge against that which has caused her so much pain, which is more than what you have done for her apparently."

"Revenge...?" Ancient Fairy wanted to believe that Ruka wouldn't seek revenge against the Crimson Dragon, but in the state she was in and the influence of whatever was trying to take her, could make it very much a possibility.
Even though she couldn't see Ruka, Ancient Fairy decided to begin calling out to her.

"Ruka. Don't believe her. Please don't let her darkness taint you. Ruka...!

"Be gone, dragon!"

Ancient Fairy could feel a great power coming from in-front of her as the number "83" seemed to appear for a brief second. Then a great wave of dark energy hit her, knocking her over and engulfing her completely.

"Ruukaaa....!"

----------------

Ruka soon found herself back in her room at Sakana. Feeling confused, she looked around for her spirits, unaware of what had happened to them. It was then that she spotted a card on the floor right in front of her. She bent down and picked it up, looking at it curiously.

"Number 83: Galaxy... Queen...?"

As she repeated those words from the card, a dark aura seemed to spread from the card, up Ruka's arm, then spread out around her body. Ruka's eyes glazed over as Galaxy Queen appeared, looking sad for her.

"You poor lost child, you've been through so much."

Ruka looked up at Galaxy Queen slowly, but showed no emotion or reaction to her presence there.

"You're... Galaxy Queen...? Where are the other spirits I was with...? Ancient Fairy..."

Galaxy Queen nodded in response to her name. She then leant close to Ruka, raising her hand and placing it on the side of her face gently.

"The other spirits left. They seemed unhappy."

"They... left me...? Because I didn't agree with them...?"

Galaxy Queen nodded, but gave Ruka a reassuring smile.

"It's okay, you have me now and I am going to help you, my dear sweet child." Galaxy Queen gently brushed Ruka's cheek with her hand before continuing. "You have such a rare talent. Such a strong connection to the world of spirits. Why would anyone wrong such a child as yourself?
But I promise, we will make sure those who have will pay and that you will be re-united with your loved ones soon."

Tears began to fall from Ruka's eyes as she felt Galaxy Queen's hand on the side of her face. This touch, it felt familiar to Ruka somehow. What was this the touch of...? A mother? That was it. This felt very much like a mother's touch, something Ruka had not felt or known in such a long time. Galaxy Queen felt like a mother. Re-assuring, gentle, caring...
As Ruka began crying, Galaxy Queen pulled her into a gentle hug, but as she comforted her, a brief flash of smirk appeared on her face that Ruka did not notice, nor see.

"I'll help make everything right again...
...but others must not get in our way, Ruka. They pretend to be kind, but they want to hurt you. They don't want you to see your loved ones again. They'll turn on you the first moment they get.
Trust me, Ruka..."

The next words Ruka spoke brought joy to Galaxy Queen and let her know that the girl was fully under her spell.

"...I trust you."
