- Passing Down Hope -

Characters: Juudai Yuuki, Yuma Tsukumo, Aspiring Emperor Hope
Synopsis: After talking to Yuma about a dream he had, Juudai passes Hope onto him.

"Absolute Zero, DIRECT ATTACK!"

As a rain of icicles fell down upon him from Absolute Zero's attack, Yuma panicked and began to dance around in an attempt to avoid being hit by them, but the resulting explosions from them hitting the ground around him threw the boy into the air, making him land with a thud on the floor a few feet from where he was originally stood.

YUMA 0 - JUUDAI 4000

"Owow..." Yuma groaned as he got up onto his knees. That duel certainly packed a punch, a lot of punches in fact. He didn't even make a dent in Juudai's life points at all. Smiling, Juudai approached Yuma, stopping before him and holding out his hand offering to help Yuma back up to his feet.

"Gotcha! That was a fun duel, Yuma."

Although beaten, Yuma returned the smile and allowed Juudai to help him up.

"Oh man, I had no chance! But I guess that's why you're a pro-duelist after all!"

Juudai laughed a little at Yuma's remark.

"You're still learning! To be honest, no duelist ever stops learning really. Though I’m curious… your deck seems to be built to do XYZ summons, there were a few times when I thought that's what you were aiming for but you never called one out. Do you have any XYZ monsters in your deck?"

Yuma paused and then he sheepishly rubbed the back of his head.

"Er... not yet. I haven't really found any that really go with the deck yet..."

Grinning, Juudai placed a hand on the boys shoulder. "Well, when you do, it'll help out your deck a lot."
"Now how about we go and grab something to eat, my treat!"

Yuma’s eyes lit up at the mention of food as the two began to walk through the park towards the nearby cafe.

---------------------------

"Ahhh, it looks so goood!!"

Juudai couldn't help but be amused over how excited Yuma had gotten over the food in front of him as they sat at an outside table at the cafe just across from the park. Though Juudai had to admit, it all looked delicious and he couldn’t wait to start eating it himself.
As the two began to eat, Juudai decided to start the conversation about Number 96.

"So hey, about this dream you had..."

Yuma looked up at Juudai from the food he was digging into for a moment before falling into silence, eventually looking awkwardly to the side.

“Ah, yeah, that.”

The silence continued as Juudai realised that there maybe parts of the dream he might not wish to talk about.

"If some parts of the dream are a private matter, that's fine. I just need to know about the guy you saw in it, that's all. Just anything he said to you."

Yuma felt a little more reassured after that. He really didn’t want to get into the issue with his parents in front of Juudai and was glad that he didn’t have to. He didn’t want that to be a big deal after all.

"In the dream, I fell off a cliff and he saved me from falling. He looked just like me only kinda darker and with these numbers spinning in his eyes. He didn't give me a name when I asked who he was and when I asked why he looked like me he said some stuff I didn't really understand… something about that I was the only thing he could trail? And a something...er, a pillar, I think, of darkness with silver and gold eyes? Made no sense to me, whatever it was. Guy was being as creepy as hell.
When he found out my name means "99", he told me he found it funny because he was the 96th out of 99 "very bad people" and was amused he was talking to someone whose name meant "99".
Then he said he had no issue with me, but that he found me very interesting and said this was probably not the last time that my path would cross with him.
Then he wished me "luck" for "what might come" before disappearing."

Juudai listened to Yuma's explanation carefully. He couldn't help but feel concerned that Number 96 had seemingly taken interest in the boy in what possibly might not have been a meeting of coincidence, unless Number 96 was just playing with him over the explanation of his appearance. It sounded a little ominous to Juudai though. Was there something… some reason… that Number 96 ended up in Yuma’s dream in particular?

"So who IS this creepy 96 guy anyway?"

Yuma’s question quickly snapped Juudai out of his thoughts.

"Do you remember the tournament that was held not to long ago? The one where cards had to be collected up?"

"Oh yeah!" Yuma exclaimed, as he reached for more food on the table. "I wanted to take part in that but no-one told me about it!! I can't believe I missed it!"

Juudai gave Yuma a bemused expression, guess he wasn't told about its true agenda either.

"96 is one of 99 "Number" cards. All of the Numbers were originally criminals from the 12 dimensions, which broke out of an inter-dimensional prison and became scattered around Domino City. That tournament was set up by one of the Number cards in order to use duelists to gather them together and so he could harness their power. He was dealt with, but some of the Numbers are still unaccounted for. Number 96 is one of them and he’s considered one of the most evil out of them all."
"I don't know if it was a coincidence that he happened to appear in your dream, or whether something drew him to you, but... you need to be careful."

The look on Yuma's face was a mixed one as he processed the information. He certainly didn't ask for some crazed evil criminal to take an interest in him and the thought of that made him feel a little anxious, but all the more reason to continue challenging himself with dueling, right?
Clenching his hand around the Emperor’s key hung around his neck, he glanced up at Juudai with a confident smirk on his face.

"Then I'll just beat him in a duel if he turns up again!"

Juudai had to admire Yuma's confidence, but he was still a very inexperienced duelist who had a lot to learn before running off into dangerous duels like that.

"Juudai..."

Juudai's head perked up as the area around him suddenly faded into a private void. Beside him stood Aspiring Emperor Hope, who had been the one to call him.

"This boy maybe in a lot of danger if Number 96 has taken an interest in him and I believe it may not of been a mere coincidence that they met. I think their paths crossed for a reason.
I think I should go with him. He may need my help if Number 96 crosses paths with him again."

Juudai paused to think about the situation for a moment and then gave Hope a nod in agreement. "I agree. He'll need some kind of protection if it comes to that. Thank you, Hope."

Hope gives Juudai a silent nod back, as the area returned back to reality. As it did, Juudai reached into the card holder on his belt, pulling out a card and then laying it face down on the table. He then pushed the card towards Yuma, who gave him a puzzled look over it.

"I want you to take this."

Curiously, Yuma picked the card up off the table and looked at it.

"Number 39--- Wait... you're giving me an XYZ card!? Is it really okay for me to take this!?"

Juudai gave him a nod in response.

"A lot of the Numbers have an effect where a Numbers card can only be destroyed by another Number. If you find yourself in a duel against Number 96, use Hope. He'll help you."

Yuma stared at the card for a moment, until a huge grin appeared on his face. He then suddenly jumped right out of his seat and began dancing around beside the table with the card still in his hand, gaining strange looks from nearby people who were passing by.

"YAHOOO!! I have an XYZ card!! This is the greatest! Thank you, Juudai!!"

He then held the card up to the sky, continuing to grin at it.

"Aspiring Emperor Hope...!"

Juudai watched Yuma as he danced around, amused over how happy he was to receive the card. At least with that, Juudai felt that the boy had a slightly better fighting chance if things did happen to take a turn for the worse.
If it did, he may need all the help he can get.

--------------------------------------------

"Thanks, Juudai! Today's been awesome and now I have this card I feel unbeatable."

Juudai laughed quietly at his statement before handing Yuma a piece of paper with an e-mail address and contact number written on it.
“If you have any other issues with Number 96, contact me as soon as possible.
Have a safe journey back to the academy. And keep dueling!"

Juudai gives Yuma a thumbs up, which Yuma returned joyfully. "No problem there!!"
"Cya around, Juudai!!"

With a final parting wave, Yuma began running down the road towards the Domino City docks. As he did, he made a happy leap in the air, throwing his fist into the sky.

"KATTOBING DA, ORE!!!"

Nothing was going to stop him now!
