Characters: Juudai Yuuki, Midori Hibiki, Katou Yuuki, Ami Yuuki
Synopsis: Juudai reunites with his parents after getting a second chance at life, but the reunion doesn't go very well.
The start of March and it was already starting to feel more like spring, Juudai thought, as he sat on a bench in the park, dressed in his college uniform. He'd come straight from his morning class to the park and was nervously waiting there, occasionally looking up at the path that led towards him.
He was going to be meeting his parents today, for the first time in what... four or five years? Juudai had lost count. His contact with them during those years had been so minimal, even his time before the academy didn't have much of them in his life. They had always been far too busy for him most of the time.
But according to Midori, his parents had been heart-broken over his death, he guessed he couldn't keep the fact that he was alive from them for long and... he wanted to meet them... part of him just wanted to see them so bad, but the other part worried if they'd accept the person he was now.
He wanted to tell them about his power, about his adventures, everything... but he didn't feel ready, not now. Today was just to show them that he was alive and that they didn't have to be sad anymore.
As he waited, Midori was already approaching the entrance to the park with Juudai's parents in tow.
Juudai's mother, Ami, was a slender looking woman with long wavy ginger coloured hair and brown eyes. His father, Katou, dressed in a smart business suit, had hair a similar colour to Juudai's, only it was short and parted in the middle.
Both of them looked puzzled, they hadn't been told who wanted to meet them and why it was so urgent, they had just guessed at it being one of their son's friends or maybe even his girlfriend, who they had yet to meet.
Once they had gotten to the entrance of the park, Midori stepped aside to let them walk through first. Once they had she follow behind, but at a distance.
Soon enough, the benches that lined some of the pathway had come into view and Juudai's parents gradually saw a familiar figure sat on the first one in front of them. Their walked slowed down, then came to a complete stop.
Juudai didn't notice them standing down the pathway at first, but as he looked up, he saw their shocked and bewildered faces looking back at him.
Juudai slowly stood up from where he was sat, feeling completely speechless, he didn't know what to do or say and neither did his parents.
Gradually, his mother began to move forward towards him. Once she got to him, she slowly lifted her hands up and placed them on both sides of his face, as if checking he was really there, if he was really alive and looking back at them. As if to try and confirm it, Juudai slowly lifted his left hand and placed it on top of his mother's hand which was on his left cheek.
With that, his mother started to cry and just pulled her son into a tight hug. She didn't really care as to how or why he was alive, or even if she was just seeing things or not. The important thing was that he was there in front of her and he looked and felt alive!
Juudai returned her hug, it was the first time he had hugged his mother in a very long time.
After a while, she eventually pulled back and cupped her hands to the sides of his face again, her eyes wet with tears.
"Just... how?"
Juudai just gave her a small smile and shook his head gently.
"I can't tell you... at least not yet... all you need to know is that I'm alive and I'm okay"
Juudai's mother looked at him, then looked back at her husband, who was still stood in exactly the same place.
"Look... " she said to him, with an emotional smile on her face. "Our son's alive... he's alive..."
Juudai's father looked at her, then glanced at Juudai. His expression seemed stern at him, yet also somewhat apprehensive.
"...people don't just come back from the dead."
"But... he did! Somehow... I wish I could explain it, but somehow... does it even matter? He's back with us"
Suddenly, Katou reached out and grabbed his wife's arm, pulling her back from Juudai.
"What...? What are you doing--?"
"Keep away from him"
"But why...!?"
"Because I don't think that's really him"
Katou looked back towards Juudai, who was looking confused back at his father. Katou couldn't help it, part of him was happy to see his son but there was something... just not right about him, something that made him feel very wary, like he couldn't see the whole picture at all and that there was something else stood there, in place of his own son.
"Who are you?" Katou asked.
"Dad... dad it's me!"
Katou shook his head.
"People don't come back from the dead and as MUCH as I want my son back, I don't believe you're him"
Ami looked at her husband, clearly feeling frustrated and confused as to what he was saying.
"Dear, what do you mean? It's him! It's... him"
"Ami... I'm not about to believe that he came back from the dead, at least without something else being involved! Things like those monsters that appeared a while back, or some kind of... I don't know, black magic!? Either way, he was NOT alive when we saw him, so why is he alive now? There's something not right about him"
"But he's right there! Our only son is right there--!"
"Mom...it's okay..."
Ami and Katou looked up at their son, who now had his back turned to them.
"... I've been through a lot of things...even right now... things you both probably wouldn't understand... I was a fool to really think that maybe, just maybe, you'd be able to accept me for who I am... what I am..."
He turned slightly to look back at them.
"I'm glad I at least met you guys again and maybe one day, you'll be able to understand..."
And with that, he began to walk off in the opposite direction, his mother tried to go after him, but Katou held her back to stop her going, so all she could do was yell after him, pleading him not to leave their lives again. Juudai heard her, he wanted to go back, but he felt he couldn't, not yet, not now, maybe not ever... he wasn't sure, but there was one thing he was sure of...
... this was one of the most painful feelings he had ever felt.
Midori watched Juudai leave in silence, then turned towards the boys parents, his mother was crying hysterically, his father was trying his best to comfort her... and she started to wonder if getting them to meet up with their son was such a good idea after all.
